It’s been raining a lot in Puglia lately – there have been mudslides and some bridges washing away. Look at this high-speed train that seemed to have stopped just in time. Luckily, where Sante’s family is, there hasn’t been as much rain so they are doing fine.
In case you saw Chinesepod from the last blog and wanted more, there’s the BBC’s Chinese site, or even better, the BBC Languages site for other languages.
CNN’s title is Ken may get Extreme Makeover – it sounds like the reality show will be following shortly. Check out the pictures of him over the decades and tell me what Barbie ever saw in him?!? This hasn’t been his best 1/2 century.
Some of you still may not know what RSS is, but it’s a good time to learn. It will probably save you a lot of time if you keep going back to the same websites, blogs, or newsites to check for new information. Let RSS do the work for you! You use a news aggregator to check for new information (through the RSS technology) when you decide to “follow” a site by inserting the URL of the RSS feed (for example, mine is http://blog.sararosso.com/blog.xml) and the reader provides a summary or excerpt and a link to the full story of all the sites you are following. If you use Firefox browser, you can install a simple extension and it will work in your sidebar. You can also try Google Reader, or Yahoo’s Konfabulator if you want a “brand” name.
This weekend, we had two major “finds” at the supermarket. One is this big hunk of Grana Padano, two pounds for only 6 euro! It gives our dehydrated soups-in-a-bag some flavor the nights when I come home at 9pm from a long day at school. Tomorrow may be another soup day since it’s 8.30am-8pm at school. After two years looking, I think I have finally found SOUR CREAM in Italy! I haven’t had the chance to use it yet (see soup reference above) but I have high hopes that maybe my Mexican food and other dishes may soon have some authenticity once again! I think since we are more north now (we have sauerkraut and German sausages in the supermarket) I was able to finally find some. Wish me luck.
