The Tour of Gelato needs your tastebuds!
If you’re not familiar with the Tour del Gelato, it’s your favorite bloggers going to their favorite gelaterias in and out of Italy and telling the world about it! They link back to the Tour del Gelato blogroll, and I add the entry to the list!
Yep, I know it’s hard.
If you’re out this summer eating lots of gelato like I know you are, make sure to snap a few photos, grab a napkin with the address, and then blog about it for the Tour del Gelato!
Just this week a bunch of Tour del Gelato posts have come in from some of my favorite bloggers:
- €uro Bar 2000 [Bleeding Espresso] in Badolato, Calabria
- Marrons Glacés [My Bella Vita] in Catanzaro, Calabria
And even our first Tour del Gelato entry in Italian from soon-to-be re-patriated Shelley from At Home in Rome (and now blogs-from-the-US Quasi Italiana and Almost Roman) – Fonte Della Salute (in Italian) in Rome
You don’t need to be in Italy to participate but just follow one simple rule: sharing a place that serves gelato and not ice cream! Make sure you share a picture or two, and the address of your stop on the Tour del Gelato!
To see a full list of gelaterias or how to participate, check out the Tour del Gelato blogroll page!
Stop teasing us! :-) It all looks yummy!!!!
No Gelato here in the uk :-( well not in Oxfordshire anyway.
your photo has me craving some pistachio :)
OMG. I finally have a US based gelato place to add to the list! And I forgot to take pictures! It was actually quite good, so maybe I was distracted. I’ll take some next time I go. I had a Bavarian Mint that was fantastic. Like an Andes mint as gelato. Yes, please.
The best gelato in Lombardia used to be in my town until the owner sold it. It was ridiculously good and ridiculously cheap… but not anymore.
You seem quite particular on gelato vs ice cream, but to be fair, there is no actual difference between top quality ice cream or gelato, it’s all semantics. Trust me, I’ve had some baaaaad gelato here, way worse than average North American ice cream. Though of course, gelato is on average of higher quality, but to disqualify anything based on it’s name seems odd to me.
@Colin, I am definitely particular on gelato vs. ice cream for the Tour del Gelato – it doesn’t make sense to include ice cream in it, too, otherwise it would be much too broad in scope.
Gelato is made differently than ice cream, as I’m sure you know, so only a few places globally outside of Italy are actually making “gelato.” That doesn’t make it better, but the point is to help identify them around the world.
I’ve had some terrible gelato as well. It’s not all good! And I love some ice cream as well, I can’t wait to eat it this summer.
Well that’s the point really, if ice cream is made well, it’s made in exactly the same way as gelato. A rose by any other name… blah blah blah. I understand it’s an italian blog, but to me it seems odd to disqualify something because something identical has a different name. Here (in Italia), things are regulated, you can’t call something and do whatever you want. In North America, there are doubtlessly countless average to low quality ice cream shops that call their product gelato just because it sounds fancy and there’s nobody to say they can’t.
Regardless, I’ve been looking for a good gelato place, so I look forward to the results. I’ve just bought a little machine for home, but it’s nice to go out once in a while! I’m certainly going to check out your recommendations in Milano when I’m there. But I’ve yet to be brave enough to take our little 6 month old on the train there and back in the summer heat. :P
